Discussing Chronic Migraine (CM) & Turning Pain into Strength
Podcast Episode 01 – 11/04/24
Hosted by Michelle Eberwein – Author & Certified Holistic Health Coach in Cape Coral, Florida

Are you affected by Chronic Migraine (CM)?
Podcast Interview with author, professor & Chronic Migraine (CM) warrior Kathy O’Shea!
Join us in this interview as we explore the journey of Kathy O’Shea, an English Professor at Monroe Community College in Rochester, New York, and author of “So Much More Than a Headache: Understanding Migraine through Literature.”
Kathy has navigated the challenges of living with Chronic Migraine (CM) for forty-four years, a topic she delves into in her book. During a terrible migraine episode, Kathy read an essay by Joan Didion, ‘In Bed,’ which deeply inspired and led her to help others using literature.
Kathy’s love for literature became an additional resource for managing pain, and despite her hardships, Kathy’s adventurous spirit never dampened. She went on to explore Icelandic glaciers and the water rapids of Alaska’s National Wildlife Refuge. Despite also recently being diagnosed with Postural Orthostatic Tachycardia Syndrome (POTS), Kathy continues to thrive, turning her pain into strength. She lives with her husband, cat, and a golden retriever named Oliver!

My inspiration for launching this podcast
When I tripped on a step in my basement in 2006, I did not expect excruciating chronic pain, failed surgeries, addiction, overdose, and depression to follow. Nobody prepared me for any of that! When the doctor informed me I would most likely spend my future in a wheelchair, I wasn’t ready for that either. My main reason for launching this true story health podcast stems from my belief that nobody should suffer alone in the dark. Talking openly and honestly about our emotions brings new perspectives, which, in turn, brings change.
Who is this true story health podcast intended for?
Anyone who suffers from pain of any kind
I want you to know you are not alone. Giving up is not an option. Subscribe to hear about how others cope and manage their pain daily. Listening to others can help us learn, give us hope, and teach us how to turn pain into strength.
The driving force in pain awareness & change
Anyone who works to raise awareness and help others in all areas of pain management and relief. Whether a podcast host or professional caregiver; I want to hear from you.
